The Jeff Morris Foundation

Who was Jeff Morris?

The relationship between Portland Fire & Rescue and the Jeff Morris Fire and Life Safety Foundation began in 1974 when Portland Battalion Chief Jeff Morris succumbed to cancer at age 46.

Jeff was a pioneer in public education, being the first in Fire Bureau history to embrace education as a viable part of Portland Fire & Rescues mission.  In the wake of Jeffs death, his friends persuaded the city council to include funding within Portland Fire & Rescues budget for a full-time educator.  They went further to establish the Foundation as a non-profit organization with the primary purpose of providing fire and life safety education and preserving the history of Portland Fire & Rescue.

Because this relationship benefits the community, and because it has such a historic relationship with Portland Fire & Rescue, it became a natural partnership that has proven valuable in supporting a variety of non-traditional programs through public support.

The spirit of Fireman Jeff now carries this organization toward its mission of providing a safe and supportive community in and around Portland, Oregon.
